What is the Mental Health Skills for Managers course?

Mental Health Skills for Managers is a practical and immersive course for people managers to gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to have effective conversations with their teams about mental health and wellbeing.

What is the level of competency for this course?

This course is for managers at all levels across an organisation. The training promotes a healthy performance culture, giving all managers the skills and confidence to have conversations about mental health and encourage staff to seek early support.

Who should attend the course as a learner?

The course is designed for people managers who want to learn to put wellbeing at the heart of their leadership approach, boost employee engagement, and create an open culture around mental health and wellbeing.

On this online or face-to-face course, learners will be taught how to spot the signs of poor mental health in their team, signpost to appropriate tools and resources, and become a self-care role model.

What are the learning outcomes of the course?

By attending the course, learners will be able to:

  • Identify if an employee may be experiencing poor mental health
  • Feel confident having open conversations about mental health with their team members
  • Appropriately signpost to available support and know where to go for support and guidance for themselves
  • Role model good self-care practice, inspiring their teams to look after their own mental health and wellbeing

How is the course structured for learners?

The course is 4 hours and can be delivered online or face to face. There are also 30 minutes of self-reflective work to be completed before the course.

How much does the course cost for a learner or organisation to attend?

An individual place on the course is £150 per learner, or £2,400 for a course of 16 learners. Instructor Members cannot sell places on this course at a different price.

What materials do learners receive as part of the course?

Learners will receive a physical workbook to use during the course.

How many learners can attend the course?

The course has been designed for a minimum of eight learners and a maximum of 16 learners to allow for detailed conversation within the group.

How does this course differ from other MHFA England courses?

This course is designed specifically for people managers. It will help workplaces provide a consistent approach to mental health and wellbeing, promoting healthy performance across the whole organisation.

Managers will learn how to spot the signs of poor mental health in their team, signpost to appropriate tools and resources, and become a self-care role model.

Can this course be delivered outside of England?

Yes, this course can be delivered outside of England.
